Frequently Asked Questions

Determining your level can be tricky. When we read in our second language, it is normal for there to be things in the book that we do not understand. That is how we push ourselves past our level and grow! That being said, it’s important that what we read is at a level where we can still understand the main idea. At the Global Book Club, we follow the CEFL guidelines for language levels. Below is a summary of each level:
A1 (Beginner): Can understand and use basic phrases for immediate needs (e.g., greetings, simple questions). Can introduce oneself and interact in a basic way if the other person speaks slowly.
• A2 (Elementary): Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to everyday life (e.g., shopping, family). Can communicate in simple, routine tasks requiring direct information exchange.
• B1 (Intermediate): Can handle most situations while traveling in the language area. Can produce simple connected texts on familiar topics and describe experiences, dreams, and goals.
• B2 (Upper-Intermediate): Can understand the main ideas of complex texts and engage in discussions on technical or specialized topics. Can interact with fluency and spontaneity, making regular communication with native speakers possible.
• C1 (Advanced): Can understand a wide range of demanding texts and recognize implicit meanings. Can express ideas fluently and spontaneously with precision, even in professional or academic contexts.
• C2 (Proficient): Can understand virtually everything heard or read with ease. Can summarize information from various sources and express themselves with a high degree of fluency, accuracy, and nuance, similar to a native speaker.

At the Global Book Club our #1 priority is to maintain a supportive, safe environment. If another student has made a rude or offensive comment to you please contact us so that we can limit your interaction with this student in our discussions or depending on the severity of the behavior remove them from the club.
